Katy Beattie

Hello! My name is Ms. Beattie and I am your Librarian!

A little about me

I grew up in Olympia, in fact I attended Roosevelt Elementary and Garfield Elementary and thenMs. Beattie with coffee at the bookfairmoved on the JMS and CHS. I come from a family of librarians and readers, (but I didn’t learn to read until late 1st grade)! After I overcame that hurdle you rarely found me without a book!

I graduated from Capital High School in 2003 and went on to get a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Western Oregon University (I spent four years reading about 25 books a quarter, it was the best experience!). After I graduated, I went straight to my Masters Program at Saint Martin’s University. I received my Masters in Teaching in 2009. Soon after, I was hired at Garfield teaching third grade. I have taught second through fifth grades at Garfield over the last seven years. Then my great friend Mrs. Gylys decided her heart was at home with her little girl and my dream job came open. I immediately enrolled back into college to work on my library credentials! I have now been in the library half of my teaching career.

I have been married for eleven years to my lovely husband Andrew.

We have two sons, Sam and Max. Sam is 7 and is in second grade at Garfield and Max is 4. If you spend any time in our library at all you will probably see Sam and my mom (do you remember Ms. Eileen our former librarian before Mrs. Gylys? That’s my mom!). Andrew and I also have a dog. Lily is 3 years old and she is an Australian Labradoodle. She loves to snuggle, watch animals on TV, and go for walks. There are many Garfield teachers that have Aussie Doodles! We could have a club!

Some of my interests include reading, spending time with friends and family, and traveling.
