Garfield Lifeskills and Talk It Out Programs
Garfield School has blended two fantastic programs to
promote qualities and practices all children and adults find beneficial.
Our staff, families, and school community are using the same language to
encourage and remind each other of qualities and behaviors that promote
good citizenship and conflict resolution.
Our school emphasizes the importance of these
lifeskills by recognizing students at
assemblies held twice a month. These students have been selected (often
by their classmates ) as those who best exemplify the qualities of the
month. For example September's focus was on the
lifeskills of FRIENDSHIP AND CARING.
Garfield staff also finds the “Talk It Out” program a successful way to have kids problem solve. In September, classmates role play situations they might find themselves in and learn a step by step procedure to help resolve conflicts. It works for predicaments big and small.
